Now in his second year, Joel is excited to become more outspoken and committed within the LGBTQIA community, both on campus and in as many places as possible.Joel wants to spend their life fighting for environmental justice, especially in the areas where it intersects with gendered injustice. Mat(ti) believes self determination, in all aspects of our lives, is essential to wellness, and is heavily invested in promoting and supporting others’ right to self determine and be their authentic selves.Maia Huang has been a licensed marriage and family therapist since 2007.She received her undergraduate degree from The Evergreen State College in 1994 and her MA in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2004.Max is a queer/ pansexual, gender non-conforming, trans-femme, Cantonese-Chinese, scholar studying Chemical Engineering here at University of California at Davis.They are entering their fourth year at UC Davis and plan to use their degree to slow or stop global warming, to protect the human race from climate change, and to make the world a better place for humans.This year Angelo will be doing programming specifically on HIV Stigma and sexual education while they continue to explore gender and provide opportunities for others to do the same.
After they graduate, Angelo plans on pursuing a masters related to counseling and rehabilitation in hope of addressing trauma and effects of social stigma on queer communities.
When he’s not hard at work, Matt enjoys listening to music, dancing, learning foreign languages, and studying computer programming.
He also enjoys spending time with his fraternity brothers serving the community and performing as a drag queen at local events.
Another possible long-term goal of his is also to bring awareness to the issues faced by LGBTQIA youth who are abused at home, homeless, or placed in the foster system, and provide justice and representation for them. They’re learning new, radical ways to envision and approach mental health as well, and plan on bringing what they’ve learned and their own experiences to their programing this year. After graduation, he plans to attend graduate school in pursuance of a doctorate in linguistics.
In their free time, Joel loves to cook, play Pokemon, and repeatedly watch their favorite show, Charmed.
